Rules
The following is a list of rules that players are expected to follow whilst playing on the server or communicating on any server-related platform.
Some admins are more or less forgiving on certain issues than others, but in general violating any of these rules will result in a permanent ban.
Ban appeals must be directed to rico#5130 via our Discord. Keep in mind that, if denied, you must wait 1 week before appealing again.
It is within your best interest to always be open and honest, as if we cannot trust what you're saying you will simply be banned.
Rule 1: Don't be an asshole
We are all here to have fun and enjoy the server. It's a video game: don't be an asshole.
- Constantly targeting, harassing, or threatening another member of the community is against the rules.
- This includes excessively negatively impacting another character with little in-character justification.
Rule 2: Use common sense
Think before you speak to avoid making yourself look like an idiot.
- Being overly disruptive or annoying will get you banned.
- Cheating, exploiting, hacking, and spamming are not allowed
- Follow rule #10 if you encounter any bugs or exploits.
- 'Toeing the line' or exploiting loopholes when it comes to the server rules is not allowed.
- This community has a zero-tolerance policy for engaging in or discussing in sexual 18+ content, including erotic roleplay (ERP), in any way.
Rule 3: Follow the combat rules
Rule 3.1: Shoot to Kill
We employ the S2K (Shoot to Kill) system of combat for all situations. This means that players may use the weapons they have available and engage in combat spontaneously.
- To begin combat, the initiating party must write a /me detailing their actions
- This /me will include what you intend to accomplish in detail.
- e.g. /me raises his fists, throwing a barrage of punches towards the man's upper torso in an attempt to disable him.
- Once the /me has been typed, S2K combat may begin between both parties immediately.
- If both parties are armed, a /me is not required.
- If the other party attacks you or runs away whilst typing the /me, you may begin S2K combat immediately.
- If the other party is out of yelling range, a /me is not required.
Rule 3.2: Escalation
- You may attack any player given that you have reasonable in-character justification.
- e.g. stealing property, snitching on you, provoking an altercation, constant verbal abuse.
- Poorly-based reasons with little benefit to roleplay such as killing someone over a casual disagreement or because they insulted you once do not constitute reasonable justification.
- You may attempt to mug other citizens at any time.
- To attempt to attack or mug Civil Protection, however, at least 4 units must be flagged on.
Rule 3.3: Permadeath
- Permanent kills are a touchy subject, as they result in all progress made to your character, alongside the character itself, being wiped.
- Generally speaking, permanent kills are the result of actions you have brought upon yourself, such as active resistance against the Combine, instigating conflict with another character, or suicidal and/or grossly negligent actions.
- However, in most cases permanent kills are handled on a case-by-case basis, and depend on the context and the impact that it would have on other characters.
- Civil Protection characters are only perma-killed upon deservicement, upon which their faction whitelist will also be revoked.
Rule 4: Craft a believable and realistic character
Citizens in City 11 are subjected to arduous and inhumane living conditions. Living in this universe is by no means a cake-walk, and your character should reflect that.
- Character names must be sensible and in proper case.
- Names taken from pop culture, movies, television, real life, or other media are not allowed.
- Intentionally generic or comical names are similarly against the rules.
- Physical descriptions are exactly that, physical, and should only detail attributes immediately visible to the senses such as height, complexion, eye color, etc.
- You should communicate in English in all forms of communication.
- Internet slang or netspeak (i.e. lol, xd, brb) should not be used in any in-character channels.
- Throwaway characters are prohibited. Creating disposable, low quality characters with little to no personality will result in a ban.
- This includes playing with wanton disregard to your character's personal safety.
- Naming your new character after your old character, or using an intentionally similar name, is prohibited.
- Referencing OOC events IC is considered breaking of this rule, and depending on the situation, could be considered metagame.
Rule 5: Administration decisions are final
It is best if you find yourself in a situation with an admin that you remain open and honest.
- Do not push for more answers related to a situation with an admin that has been closed.
- Attempting to ask Admins to reveal IC information will result in harsh punishment.
- Respect is expected of both parties.
- Lying or misrepresenting facts to admins will result in a ban.
Rule 6: Metagaming is prohibited
Always keep IC information and OOC information separate. Using OOC channels to spoil IC information is prohibited.
- Using any information gained through OOC means in-character is prohibited.
- Giving out IC information over OOC channels/chat is prohibited.
- Metabaiting is prohibited.
- Characters' knowledge on the in-game world should be independent of player knowledge, for example you may know a citizen called 'Peter Smith', but your new character will not. Roleplay this accordingly.
- Knowledge of gameplay mechanics is allowed, if you wish to demonstrate said mechanics, do so in a realistic way.
Rule 7: Avoiding IC consequences is prohibited
- Disconnecting or going AFK to avoid imminent or in-progress roleplay for any reason without reaching an agreeable stopping point with all involved parties is prohibited.
- Once engaged in conflict, you must remain on that character until the conflict has been resolved.
- Disconnecting or charswapping whilst engaged in conflict will result in a ban.
- Ask an admin if you are unsure whether you can disconnect or not.
Rule 8: Powergaming is prohibited
- Roleplayed weapons or gear is prohibited. Use the respective items that are presented in-game.
- Trying to roleplay getting somewhere but being unable to get there through in-game means is prohibited.
- Admins are under no obligation to assist you over IC matters. Asking for healing, teleportation and items etc. is prohibited.
- If you are a victim of a bug, the admin will decide whether or not to reimburse what you lose.
- If you are unable to accomplish what you are trying to do through in-game means, do not roleplay it.
Rule 9: Accept the fact that sometimes you lose
- Eventually, your character will be permanently killed without a possibility of avoiding it. A chance of wrong place, wrong time. Some events can be out of your control. Losing is just a part of the game. It is recommended to not build emotional attachments to your characters, all characters eventually die and its just a matter of time and chance that it occurs. Create your new character with better knowledge and experience with what lead up to your previous character's death.
Rule 10: Report all bugs/exploits
If you encounter a bug or an exploit, from anything as small as a spelling error to anything as big as a game breaking exploit, follow these guidelines.
- Do not abuse any bugs or exploits you find. If you break this rule, you will be banned immediately without appeal.
- Post the bug or exploit in the #bug-reports channel on the Discord server. Sharing the bug or exploit anywhere other than the #bug-reports channel will result in a ban.
- If applicable, include the following:
- An explanation as to what the bug or exploit is
- A concise guide on how to reproduce the bug or exploit
- Any applicable screenshots/videos (i.e. error messages or reproduction guides)
Failure to do so is a bannable, regardless of intent or guilt. If you see something, say something.
